John Roth, MDI grew up in Cleveland,Ohio, where I witnessed the birth of "rock n roll." I graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in history, and completed my medical studies with honors at Ohio State University, where I was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. I served my pediatric residency at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. In 1973, my wife, Bonnie, and I were excited to move to Louisville, where she was born and raised, and I joined Doctors Kaplan and Barron, whose pediatric practice was already 25 years old. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a certified diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Louisville. At Kosair Children's Hospital, I have served as president of the medical staff and as a member of the hospital board. I work to improve healthcare throughout our community as a member of the board of the Greater Louisville Health Enterprise Network which promotes health related businesses and I serve on the board of The Greater Louisville Medical Society Foundation. I am also an active member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the American College of Allergy,Asthma, and Immunology. Along with the practice of general pediatrics, I have a special interest in pediatric allergy, devoting some of my time to the testing, evaluation, and treatment of allergic diseases. As a child, I suffered from allergies and asthma but had little treatment. I get great satisfaction from helping patients and their families better manage these health problems. Since 1979, I've been a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and I am also a member of the National Association of Medical Communicators. I hosted the cable TV show,"The Doctor Is In" for several years, and was a frequent guest on "The Milton Metz Show" on WHAS radio. I am frequently called upon for interviews by local and national media on a variety of pediatric subjects. In 2009 I received the Roger Fox Award from Kosair Charities, for outstanding contributions in children's health care. My wife, Bonnie, and I have two sons, David, a child psychiatrist, and Mark, a Director of development of interactive media at The Sun Times Media Group. I really enjoy cruising and travel, scuba diving, swimming, gardening, collecting studio art glass, and cheering for both the Cardinals and Wildcats. My greatest reward as a pediatrician is having the privilege of taking care of the children of children who have grown up in our practice, many of whom are the second and third generation in their families to entrust their healthcare to our office since it's founding in 1948. |
