James Belza, MD

I was born in the Chicago area, but have called Louisville home since 1968. I am a graduate of Ballard High School, then went on to the University of Kentucky where I received my B.S. degree in biology with high distinction in 1979. I graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1983.

I completed my residency training in 1986 at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk,Virginia. Private practice began for me in Georgetown, Kentucky as a branch of the Lexington Clinic. In 1988, I returned home to Louisville to join  Kaplan Barron Pediatrics. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a certified diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, and an assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

My wife, Karyl, is a native of Louisville. We have two children, Sam and Ruthie, both in elementary school. Our interests include cooking, traveling (when we can-not much lately!) music and arts in general, U of L sports, and honestly-whatever the kids are currently into. Presently, this would include Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, ballet, wrestling, soccer, theater and more.

I enjoy the varied challenges of pediatric medicine, but also ( and perhaps because my family started at a bit later age), find great satisfaction in seeing and helping new , anxious parents grow into confident and experienced parents and hoping that I had something to do with it.
